The other day, I decided to take on the Red Dead Redemption 2 daily challenges. This consists of doing a set of chores to win small amounts of gold. I have yet to win all 7 in the day as I don’t always have the time enough plus other factors.
For example, I had to go fishing for large fish then cook it, however, I only had so many lures for large fish but I couldn’t buy anymore because I wasn’t a high enough rank. So, in a sense, I had to increase my rank and more to finish a task. So, I pick my battles. I choose what is doable or possible with the time allotted for me.
The other day, I had a daily challenge I felt I can complete in less than 3 hours because all of them were doable. So I thought.
This deals with the Showdown series. Without going from memory, I thought I had two of them well in hand. Multi-Person Kill in the showdown in less than 5 seconds, and 5 shotgun kills.
The math I thought was pretty okay. I’m far from being a math genius by any stretch, however, the simple stuff is still simple stuff, right? Mult I believed were 2 or more, or so I thought. So, the shotgun should be easy enough even during name your own weapons. That should be at least 2 kills if two people are close by.
Sure enough, I had more than one opportunity within 5 seconds where I plowed through folks. Let me also say this, I’m not really a good player. In fact, I’m most likely a guy you’ll see in the coffin at the end of the game. My skills are improved, so I can get 10+ kills on a poor day.
However, In one game in particular. For name your own weapon, I’d get my two kills, in less than 5 seconds and of course, I die on the reload. So, I thought, is it possible multiple means 3 or more in 5 seconds? I was about to give up, and then I stuck with it because I said here’s what I’ll do, I’ll kill a person, mark the time, and if I kill another person from that marked time of being under 5 seconds, I’ll record it or hope to record it.
Example of this is, if I killed a person at 1 minute 50 seconds, then I’ll say okay I need to find the second victim by the 45th second. So, I’ll say, 45 or whatever the time needs to be then when I got it I’ll capture it and post it if they didn’t give me my reward.
Few games have gone by and I was like you know what, I put out a noble effort and I should be proud enough because my scoring was fantastic in all the months I’ve had this game. My KDR seemed to be pretty high for many of the games. So I felt, while I’m on the streak (even though I still end up in the coffin) I shouldn’t feel bad about it. Who knows, I might figure out the multi-person kill event eventually.
Which is very perplexing, in one game, I took out some dynamite nailing a 4 or 5 person kill. I thought come on, Rockstar that should be a reward for the daily challenge. I mean, I got my shotgun reward the very first game, and you get a pop-up alert letting you know you achieved a challenge. This is fairly consistent.
A few games later, I seemed to be a regular John Wayne and was impressing myself. I’ve had 6 or 7 streaks where I would kill at least 5 individuals before I’m dead due to reloading as I have my own shotgun now. More times than not, it was under 5 seconds clearly. From dodging to popping off two men who were fighting fist to cuffs pretty easy targets in 5 seconds.
Still no alert, and by which time I never got mad at being killed or anything, but I would furious because suddenly, for the first time since the purchase I’m playing lights out for my level of skillset and by any other measure of the word, I was looking up multi kill definitions to no avail.
So, I was getting close to level 30, and I said, I’ll just level this up and call it a day. Two games later, my first victim, I kill via shotgun, and I see the next potential victim behind and as I’m getting ready to drop him, he drops me and now I get the daily challenge reward.
The point of this article, I still don’t know what makes a multi-kill reward. Perhaps, the dynamite from 10 games ago, or the onslaught from 3 games ago and it finally registered. I just don’t know. I just know I played with True Grit.
